Pterostylis crassicaulis) Flowers in Spring (Dec - Feb), favours grass tussocks and sedges in sub-alpine grasslands, herb fields and in snow gum woodlands. Multi-flowered with the small green labellum having a dark green beak-like appendage. The photo ruler indicates the height of this particular plant - a total of 8.5 inches (19.5cm). All known pollinators of the Genus Hymenochilus have been male insects of the fungus gnat and mosquito family. |

Long-tongued Shell Orchid (Diplodium
dolichochilum -
formerly
Pterostylis dolichochila) Flowers in Autumn/Winter (Apr - Aug), favours mallee heath, especially in the leaf litter, and around Eucalyptus leucoxylon. The labellum curves and protrudes when set . The flower can be white and green to reddish brown. The photo ruler indicates the height of this particular plant - a total of 2 inches (5cm). Pollinator uncertain but all known pollinators of the Genus Diplodium have been male insects of the fungus gnat and mosquito family. |
