Salmon Sun-orchid
(Thelymitra rubra) Flowers in Spring (Sep - Nov), favours heathlands, open forest and woodlands. A widespread common species which grows as scattered individuals or in loose groups. The photo ruler indicates the height of this particular plant - a total of 9 inches (23cm). Believed to be pollinated by bees but if not, then the flowers will self pollinate. Almost all species have flowers that open only on sunny days - hence the name of 'sun' orchid. |

Brown-beaks (Lyperanthus suaveolens) Flowers in Spring (Sep - Nov), favours open forest, heathy forest and heathland. This orchid is unmistakable and identified readily by the single stiff leathery leaf. The photo ruler indicates the height of this particular plant - a total of 14 inches (36cm). No study has been made of pollination but flowers can be very fragrant. |
